Want to help officiate swim meets? There is a officials clinic May 23.
Valley View Swim Parents,
Our swim team relies on the participation of parents and family members. One of the positions we are in desperate need of increasing is our team officials. The tri-county summer league is heading in the direction of requiring all officials to be level 1 YMCA certified. These classes are not held very often (once or twice annually), but there is one scheduled locally before the start of the season so PLEASE check your calendar and consider assisting. The attached announcement is a YMCA clinic that will be held May 17th at our YMCA in Lancaster. Those willing to become certified and officiate for Valley View will have the cost of the class reimbursed by our Valley View Team.
There will be an officials class on May 23 from 3 to approx 5:45 p.m. at the Groveport Community Center. 7370 Groveport Road, Groveport, Ohio 43125. This will be the only class offered to the league.
The first 2 hours of class will be designed for new officials who are not certified by any recognized governing body ( NCAA, USA, YMCA, OHSAA).
The last 45 minutes will be for those who want to learn about starting and refereeing. All attendees are welcome to stay. If you have been a starter or referee in TCAL (and plan on doing it this year) but are not certified you need to attend the last 45 minutes of class. If you are a certified stroke and turn judge only (USA and YMCA level I) and will be a referee or a starter you need to attend the last 45 minutes of the class.
If you are a certified referee or starter who has worked in the past year please e-mail me as you will likely not have to attend the class. I will communicate any league rule changes/modifications so that all certified starters and referees will be using the same rules.
Rule books will be distributed at the class for those that do not have 2009 rule books (approx 4 per team). The 2009 USA mini-rule book will be adequate if you have them already (Technical rules are unchanged compared to 2010). New officials will be provided 2010 rule books. This will help the league save some money. A few handouts will be given
Please contact Jim DiPetro for assistance with the registration process: jdepietr@columbus.rr.com.
Thank you so much for your consideration of this important volunteer position.
